Dallas Invents is a weekly look at U.S. patents granted with a connection to the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro area. Listings include patents granted to local assignees and/or those with a North Texas inventor. Patent activity can be an indicator of future economic growth, as well as the development of emerging markets and talent attraction. By tracking both inventors and assignees in the region, we aim to provide a broader view of the region’s inventive activity. Listings are organized by Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC).

In between those events, high on the flank of Mount Diablo, we entered a world that runs in a different orbit than nearby on I-680.

The proper functioning of our information systems is critical to the successful operation of our business. We depend on our information technology systems to process orders, manage inventory and monitor accounts receivable. Although our information systems are protected through physical and software safeguards and remote processing capabilities exist, information systems are still vulnerable to natural disasters, power losses, telecommunication failures and other problems. If critical information systems fail or are otherwise unavailable, our ability to procure products to sell, process and ship customer orders, identify business opportunities, maintain proper levels of inventories, collect accounts receivable and pay accounts payable and expenses could be adversely affected. Depreciation is calculated on a straight-line basis over the estimated useful lives of the assets. The estimated useful lives of property and equipment are subject to key assumptions such as maintenance and utilization. Unanticipated future changes in these assumptions could negatively or positively impact our net income. A 10% change in the useful lives of our property and equipment would have resulted in a $2.3 million impact on net income for the six months ended June 30, 2018.

Most recently, the sandbox has been used by my two neighbor boys. A few years ago, they gave me a Christmas ornament that was an exact replica of our sandbox — right down to the toys tucked inside.

A great benefit to scaling up is the education you will receive. Having a large commercial arena has allowed me the ability to experiment with all kinds of variables. Experiments are fun when they work. TIP: Gamble at your own risk, learn your market and stay current. Talk to intake managers and stay in tune with what the market is doing. Be humble and respectful; doors open when you are kind and realistic.
